- ADAMTS17
ADAMTS17 is the gene behind primary lens luxation (PLL) in the Chinese Crested. It is inherited recessively and can be detected with a DNA test.
- Coefficient of inbreeding (COI)
The coefficient of inbreeding (COI) is the probability that a dog's two copies of a gene are inherited from a common ancestor. Explained with limits.
- FCI
FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) is the international kennel organisation that publishes breed standards, including no. 288 for the Chinese Crested.
- FOXI3 (Hr gene)
FOXI3 is the gene behind hairlessness in the Chinese Crested. One copy of the mutation gives a hairless dog; two copies are not compatible with life.
- Hairless vs. powderpuff
Hairless and powderpuff are the two varieties of the Chinese Crested. Hairless has a bare body, powderpuff a full coat. A short definition.
- Homozygous lethal
Homozygous lethal means a gene variant is fatal when an individual has two copies. Here is how it applies to the Hr gene in the Chinese Crested.
- PRA-rcd3
PRA-rcd3 is an inherited retinal disease (rod-cone dysplasia type 3) caused by a mutation in PDE6A. It is inherited recessively.
