ADAMTS17
ADAMTS17 is a gene in which a mutation is a known cause of primary lens luxation (PLL) in several dog breeds, including the Chinese Crested. The disease is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, and a DNA test shows whether a dog is clear, a carrier or affected.
What does the disease do?
In PLL the fibres that hold the lens in place weaken and the lens detaches. This is painful and can lead to glaucoma and blindness. See PLL in Chinese Crested dogs.
Does a negative test rule everything out?
No. The ADAMTS17 variant is not the only cause of lens luxation, so a negative test does not exclude every form.
